It was founded in 1990[3] and it is the publisher of Hospodářské noviny, Respekt and several news websites. From 1999, the major shareholder of Economia was the German Verlagsgruppe Handelsblatt until it was acquired by Zdeněk Bakala in 2008.[3][4][5]

The general director of the Economia publishing house has been Michal Klíma since 2003, who resigned in September 2009.[6]

Later, Roman Latuske was chairman of the company's board of directors and CEO.[7] The company is currently managed by the Board of Directors headed by Zuzana Řezníčková.[8]

Economia is the publisher of the daily Hospodářské noviny and the weekly magazines Respekt, Ekonom and also Obchodní časopis. It also publishes the following professional titles: Business Spotlight, Logistika and Právní rádce.[9]
